RCB captain Virat Kohli has been fined around 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during his side's win over Rising Pune Supergiants.
Kohli and South African star AB de Villiers were again the standout performers for the RCB as they secured a 13-run win in Pune on Friday night, the home side finishing with 8-172 from 20 overs in the run chase.
On Saturday, it was announced the Indian star had been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during the Supergiants' innings.
"RCB captain Virat Kohli has been fined after the team maintained a slow over rate during last evening’s IPL match against Rising Pune Supergiants in Pune," the IPL said in a statement.
"Since it was his first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Kohli was fined Rs 12 lakh."
The IPL's regulations regarding slow over rates are different to those enforced in international matches.
The ICC classifies over-rate offences as minor or serious; a minor offence occurs when a side is no more than five overs short of their target in a Test match or no more than two overs in a ODI or T20 international, while a serious breach occurs when a Test side is more than five overs (Tests) or two overs (ODIs or T20s) short of their target.
For minor offences, members of an offending team are fined 10 per cent of their match fee for every over they are short of their target, while the captain of the fielding team is fined 20 per cent of his match fee for every over they are short.
For serious offences, members of an offending team are fined 10 per cent of their match fee per over for the first five or two overs and then 20 per cent for every additional over, while the captain of the fielding team faces a suspension.
In the IPL, only a captain is sanctioned for a first offence in a season.
A second offence by a captain during the season will result in a doubling of the fine, while a second offence by a team in a season will result in each player being fined the lesser of 25 per cent of their match fee and $10,000 USD.
